POSITION SUMMARY
Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation is excited to add a Maintenance and Operations Technician to the team! This position will be responsible for park facility maintenance, general groundskeeping and landscaping within the Central Region of Mecklenburg County. The incumbent will also work closely with other Maintenance & Operations staff on daily maintenance tasks along with the possibility of more complex repairs. This full-time position will have a typical schedule of weekday daytime hours (6:00am-2:30pm) but may include occasional weekends and holidays depending on business needs.
Region Specific Information: The Central Region Maintenance & Operations Technicians will cover parks located in Central Charlotte, or the Uptown area of Charlotte. A few of the parks within the Central Region are First Ward Park, Romare Bearden Park, and Freedom Park. These venues host many large-scale community events each year and our maintenance staff will ensure that our parks remain premier venues for community events and gatherings.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience in grounds maintenance.
- Proficiency with power tools to complete maintenance repairs.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Perform setup, breakdown, and cleaning during events.
- Perform routine and non-routine cleaning services to restrooms and indoor rental facilities.
- Remove limbs and debris, blow leaves off sidewalks and greenways.
- Operate power mowers, chainsaws, brush cutter, edger and clippers, power washers, ATVs, litter vacuum, and other equipment used in facility maintenance, landscaping, roadside maintenance, and right of way cleaning.
- Clear mud and water from greenway tunnels after storms.
- Open park gates and remove trash.
- Assists in performing field maintenance and service work on equipment operated.
- Assists repair technicians in duties.
- May include semi-skilled activities in buildings, grounds, storm water, and equipment operations.
- May operate light equipment such as utility vehicles, tractors, mowers and dump trucks.
- May receive, sort, and package materials.
- May serve as a lead to community service workers, volunteers and part-timers.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience: Minimum of one (1) year of experience related to area of assignment.
- Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.

- Computer Skills: General knowledge of applicable computer programs.
- Licenses and Certifications: Requires a North Carolina or South Carolina Driver’s License and County Driving Privileges. Depending on area of assignment, may require CDL Class A or B and/or endorsements.

- Light equipment used in maintenance, grounds keeping, and construction.
- Occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions applicable to safe operation of this equipment.
- Safe work practices and hazards associated with work.
- Use of the tools, equipment, supplies, and methods used in the maintenance activities.
Skills:
- Filling out daily work sheets and other required forms.
- Light trucks, small tractors, mowers, and similar automotive equipment.
